“I’m going to die,” she whispered to herself between gasps of breath. Twenty miles in and only six more to go but six miles never seemed so far. He never thought she could do it and, really, neither did she but here she was, running a marathon.
Everything hurt. Despite her intense training, she had never been one to excel at running. And she’d never had the drive to follow through . Until now.
Her feet hit the pavement. Every step brought her closer to the finish line and farther from him. She pushed forward.
