My counselor recently shed some light on one of my behaviors: I compliment the good in others and only comment on the worst in me. Not only that, but I get uncomfortable or negative when others compliment me.
She challenged me to come up with a list of compliments for myself- what I’m good at or what I’ve done well. I struggled. She asked that I take this as a “homework” assignment and work on noticing the good in myself.
Today, I’m complimenting myself for starting this blog. Good job, me! I’m proud of you (me?) for making an effort to write and create a blog: two goals I have for myself.
Doing this assignment makes me wonder… Is it common for others to feel comfortable complimenting and celebrating the good in themselves?
How many of you have a positive outlook on yourself? Was it always easy for you or is it something you struggle with or have to consistently work on?
